The unique micro climate of the secluded Clark Valley allows specialty crops to thrive. Established in 1982, Bear Creek Ranch utilizes sophisticated cropping patterns with efficient drip irrigation, diverse cover crops and organic inputs to raise selected varieties of delicious tasting exotic crops, such as the three main crops: the Feijoa; native to Brazil, as well as another Brazilian native; the Passion fruit, and the Horned melon from Africa, as well as some Asian pears, persimmons, pepino melons, tuberose flowers and heirloom tomatoes. Each fruit is continually hand picked and carefully packed on the ranch for fresh shipments.
Employees live and work on the ranch and take great pride in their work. The natural habitat of oak woodlands, grasslands and wetlands enhances the productive fields. Cattle roam the ranch as well, with the ranch trying to focus much more on intensive grazing for land restoration. Some movement is currently being made in the direction of setting up a few fields with a food forest layout for even less water usage and better soil.
